Tesla announced the event on X on August 22, 2026 with a poster reading “Exclusive Access: Cybercab” and the words September 3, Austin (Not a Tesla App, Aug 22; Electrek, Aug 24). On September 2 its Robotaxi account posted a four-word teaser, “No steering wheel, no pedals” (Teslarati, Sep 2). That is the whole official record on logistics. Here is how to fill in the rest.
What time it starts, in your time zone
Tesla has not published a start time. The figure circulating, 4:45 PM Central, comes from Motor1’s report, and we could not find it in a Tesla post. We are listing it because it is the only time anyone has printed, with that caveat attached. If Tesla posts a different one, this table changes.

Budget for a late start. Tesla’s “We, Robot” unveil on October 10, 2024 began roughly an hour after its posted time, and the company’s product events have a long habit of running behind. If you are in Florida, that means a plausible 6:30 to 7:00 PM Eastern actual start, and a demo-ride segment that could run past 8:00 PM.
Where to watch
Tesla said it will livestream the event. It did not say where. Two places have carried every recent Tesla event, and one account has been doing the teasing:
- Tesla’s X account. Tesla has streamed its last several product events on X, and the August 22 announcement itself went out there. The most likely home for the stream, and the first place to check for a time.
- Tesla’s YouTube channel. Tesla has posted its event streams there as well, live or shortly after. If the X stream buffers, this is the fallback.
- @robotaxi on X. The Tesla Robotaxi account posted the September 2 teaser and has been the voice of the service. Expect ride footage and any app-side news to land there first.
We are not claiming which platform Tesla will use; the record does not say. The living launch page gets a stream link the moment Tesla posts one.
What the format is expected to be
The consensus read from the outlets that cover Tesla daily is modest: attendees ride in a Cybercab on public streets, the car becomes an option in the Robotaxi app Austin riders already use, and everyone else watches the stream (Electrek, Aug 24). The 2024 unveil had 20 concept cars giving attendees rides around a studio lot after dark (TechCrunch, Oct 10, 2024). Tomorrow’s cars are production units, 45 of which were registered to Tesla’s Texas robotaxi fleet on August 31 (Teslarati, Aug 31), and the roads are real. That is the difference between the two events, and it is the whole point.
The viewer’s scorecard
If you plan to own a Cybercab rather than ride one, most of the stream will not change your plan. Five things would. Keep this list open and mark each one when it comes up, or does not. Status as of September 2, 2026 is in the second column; the full reasoning for each is on the launch page.

A restated goal is not an announcement. Musk has said “under $30,000” since 2024 and “this year” since February 2026. Hearing either again tomorrow moves nothing. Hearing a date next to a price moves everything, and we will say so.
What to do during the stream if you are a would-be owner
- Note the fleet number Tesla gives, and the word next to it. “Built,” “deployed,” “in service” and “planned” are four different numbers. Our production ledger tracks which is which.
- Watch the ride footage for a charge port. A rear-bumper door on a production car answers the question that decides what a depot has to build. Why it matters.

- Do not act on the stream. No order book exists to act in. If one appears, it will still exist on Friday.
After the stream
The launch page gets a September 3 row with what actually launched, sourced to Tesla or to two independent outlets, and each of the five scorecard lines gets a dated status. Our own predictions get graded in public, misses included. If Tesla announces anything about customer-owned cars, the pages on this site that currently say “unpublished” get rewritten the same day.

Can I attend the Cybercab event in person?
Only by invitation. Tesla invited Robotaxi riders who completed trips through August 23, sweepstakes winners selected on August 25, and mail-in entrants, all of whom had to be 21 or older. RSVPs closed August 30, 2026. Everyone else watches the livestream.
Will Tesla announce a Cybercab price at the event?
Nothing on the record says so. Musk’s stated target is under $30,000, last reaffirmed in February 2026, and Electrek reported on July 6, 2026 that the Cybercab will not be sold to consumers in the foreseeable future. If a price and a date appear, that is the single biggest owner-side announcement the event could make, and we will date it on the living launch page.
