Mexico in four lines

  • No robotaxi carries riders in Mexico, and we found no company testing one on public roads.
  • Tesla FSD (Supervised) works in Mexico, since February 2025, with the driver watching the road and responsible at all times.
  • The law has not caught up. We found no federal rules for autonomous vehicles, and Nuevo León has none allowing them on public roads.
  • No Tesla Robotaxi, no Cybercab. Tesla's driverless rides run only in the United States so far.

Searches from Mexico that reach us ask where robotaxis operate (“dónde hay robotaxis”), which cities have them, and how to buy or order a Cybercab, often naming Florida cities like Tampa and Miami. This page answers those questions for Mexico. Every fact carries a date and a source. Where we could only find low-quality claims (including pages claiming Waymo or Cybercab rides in Mexico City), we leave them out.

Is there a robotaxi in Mexico?

No. As of November 2, 2026, we found no robotaxi service carrying passengers and no robotaxi testing on public roads anywhere in Mexico. Expansión described Mexico's autonomous vehicle legislation as nonexistent when it looked at why the country is far from having robotaxis (Expansión, Jun 6, 2025), and we found nothing since that changes the picture.

The closest thing is a university project. In February 2026, Tec de Monterrey presented a driverless minibus it calls the first autonomous vehicle for public use in Latin America. It is being tested in the Distrito Tec around the Monterrey campus as an urban lab. Project lead Jorge de Jesús Lozoya Santos put service for the wider public in “los próximos dos o tres años” (the next two or three years), tied to new legislation (EFE via El Imparcial, Feb 11, 2026).

Where are robotaxis operating, then?

The nearest public robotaxi rides are in the United States, in cities including Austin, Phoenix and Los Angeles; our US robotaxi map lists every one with its operator and status, and the world robotaxi map covers China, the Gulf, Europe and Asia. For the Florida cities searchers ask about, see Tampa and Miami (both also in Spanish).

Are self-driving cars legal in Mexico?

So a paid driverless ride in Mexico needs new law first. None of this is legal advice.

Tesla in Mexico: FSD, the Robotaxi and the Cybercab

Mexico is one of the few countries where Tesla's FSD (Supervised) works. Tesla launched it there in February 2025, the first market outside the US and Canada, with the Tesla AI account greeting “¡Hola México!” (Not a Tesla App, Feb 11, 2025). It is a driver-assistance system: the driver must watch the road and stays responsible, so it does not turn a Tesla into a robotaxi. Tesla sells cars in Mexico directly through tesla.com/es_mx.

The Robotaxi service and the Cybercab are another matter. Tesla has announced neither for Mexico. What it has put in writing:

What about the Tesla Gigafactory in Nuevo León?

It was never built. Musk announced the plant in March 2023, it was suspended in mid-2024 and the land in Santa Catarina remains unused. On October 28, 2026, Governor Samuel García said he did not consider the project dead, suggested it could make something other than electric cars, such as chips or humanoid robots, and asked people to wait until after the US elections; he said this was his personal opinion (Milenio, Oct 28, 2026). Tesla has not confirmed any of it.

Can you buy or own a Cybercab in Mexico?

Not today, and not in the US either. Tesla has no public Cybercab order page, price or delivery date. When we last checked Tesla's Cybercab FAQ on October 19, 2026, it sent would-be buyers of a fleet or a single Cybercab for commercial use to an interest form. Tesla has said nothing about selling the Cybercab in Mexico. The full order status, with every update dated, is in can you buy a Tesla Cybercab yet.

What this means if you want to own a robotaxi

If you live in Mexico and want to own a robotaxi, the rules to run one for paying riders do not exist there yet, so a personally owned car earning fares is not something anyone can do in Mexico today. The places where it is closest are in the United States, where Tesla runs Cybercab rides in Austin and has said most Cybercabs will be Tesla-owned at first. Every robotaxi, whoever owns it, also needs a yard between rides to charge, get cleaned and head back out, because nobody is aboard to do it. How that works is in how robotaxis charge and robotaxi fleet management.

Where DockDuty fits

DockDuty is an independent US company building that depot layer (parking, DC fast charging, cleaning and dispatch) for individually owned robotaxis in the United States. It has no depot, site or lease in Mexico, and no DockDuty depot is operating anywhere yet. Orlando, Florida is its lead market, with the Orlando depot targeted for Q4 2026 or Q1 2027. For the owner side, start with Cybercab owners: parking, charging and care and the Cybercab ownership planner, or see the numbers in the earnings calculator and the day-to-day in the live owner demo.
