Thirteen metros have live service as of August 21, 2026 — Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix, the SF Bay Area, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Las Vegas, Nashville, Miami, Tampa, and Orlando — with San Diego and Denver rolling out and Washington DC and Detroit announced.
Which companies operate robotaxis in the US?
Three charge fares: Waymo (the incumbent at scale — ~3,000 vehicles, ~500,000 paid rides a week), Tesla (seven metros in thirteen months; the only operator with a stated plan to let individually owned cars earn on its network), and Zoox (purpose-built pods; first paid market opened in Las Vegas on August 10, 2026).
Which cities get robotaxis next?
Announced: Washington DC and Detroit (Waymo, by end of 2026), plus Zoox paid service in Miami and Austin. The pattern behind the map: permissive state AV law, mild weather, airport corridors, dense point-to-point demand — which is why Tesla lit up three Florida metros in a single month — Miami July 3, Tampa and Orlando July 21 (Waymo had Miami and Orlando running earlier).
Why a depot company keeps this map. Riders see cities lighting up; we see markets that will need ground infrastructure. Every metro above runs on company-owned fleets today — but Tesla’s stated endgame adds individually owned cars to the network, and each one will need what any fleet needs: parking, charging, cleaning, dispatch.
